Chris and Marty Fagan at Mount RainierWe are a married couple from North Bend, Washington – Marty and Chris Fagan. Adventure is in our DNA. It brought us together and keeps us growing together, year after year. In May of 1998, we met on separate self-guided expeditions to climb Denali (also known as Mt. McKinley in Alaska), the highest mountain in North America standing at 20,230 feet.

Denali is known for cold temperatures and unpredictable weather. Amazingly, in a year with a 36% success rate, both of our teams summited. A few months after meeting on the mountain, Marty left his job as a police officer in Hawaii and moved to Seattle. Thus began our life of adventure together.

Since then we’ve gradually traded climbing ropes and crevasses for running shoes and trails. Between us we’ve amassed a resume full of accomplishments, climbing some of the highest mountains in the world (e.g., Denali, Aconcagua, Kilimanjaro), and running numerous 100-mile mountain races (e.g., Western States 100, Cascade Crest 100, Susitna 100 and more).

When not in the outdoors, Chris works at SparkFire, a leading creative thinking consultancy that she founded.  SparkFire works with Fortune 500 companies, entrepreneurs and individuals to inspire and teach creative thinking techniques and help to generate new product ideas. Marty works as the Director of Facilities for Qumulo.

Marty and Chris live with their son in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains near Seattle, where they can run out their door and up a mountain trail.
